Latah Books is delighted to announce the signing of Kacy Tellessen, a courageous and tremendously talented author from the small farming community of Spangle, Washington. His forthcoming book, Freaks of a Feather: A Marine Grunt's Memoir, is a brutally honest yet refreshingly funny portrayal of his service during the Iraq War.
Kacy joined the Marine Corps infantry directly out of high school and deployed twice to Iraq as an infantry machine gunner with Second Battalion Third Marine Division from 2005-2009. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Zero-Dark-Thirty literary journal, as well as the SOFLETE website.
He owns and operates Nordic Smoke BBQ, a catering and food truck operation with his brother. In 2018 they were featured on The Food Network’s Diners-Drive-ins and Dives. Kacy is currently pursuing a Juris Doctor at Gonzaga University School of Law. He lives in Spangle, Washington with his wife and two children.
